Twig typeface

Ink drawing to create vector from

Whole alphabet digitized

I am quite pleased with this typeface design and hope everyone can see the tree association.
Also at the moment I am considering how to produce a range with a more focused context for this brief. As this whole typeface is based on one photograph, I thought it might be nice to design a few more typefaces each one based on a different photograph and species of plant.
I thought it might be interesting to put the typeface design back into the photograph that inspired it.

Fantastic Mr Fox Range

Today I have tried to broaden the range and produce another design for the Roald Dahl book jacket series. This one for 'Fantastic Mr Fox'

Inspiration
I like this illustration of the Mr Fox character, it gives a good scene of his personality.

I have referred to the characterized illustration and realistic photograph to develop my own design.
Again I have tried to draw this design in a similar style as the James and the giant peach cover. Large dark shadow and outline, with lined texture. Then photographed and traced in illustrator to develop into a vector.

Colour application in illustrator using live paint, and development of colour pallet.

Considering layout possibilities.

I think the illustration is alright and i have got the posture right. However the face looks blank with out the right attitude or personality. So in the final layout I have croped the drawing to only reveal the legs and tail as this would still identify he is Mr Fox.

Drawing/ vector of peach

Today I have tried a new design direction and thought I would focus on the peach as it is the main object of the book and title.

Using the image to the right (google image) as reference I had a go of drawing it and trying to exaggerate the angles and pen width to make an interesting vector.

Below is the photograph of drawing and screen shot after altering the exposer to define the black.

Live trace to convert into vector.

Then applied colour in illustrator, live paint mode. I tried to keep the colours bright and surreal to appeal to the child audience and portray the surreal/ magic side of the story.

I like this vector and think it looks quite professional and very fictional. This could be quite a nice style to produce the rest of the range in. I think the colours my need some more work though and remove the water droplets and some of the lines.

Over all I think this is a nice drawing style that i think could work across the range. However I would probably re draw this one as the peach looks more like a pumpkin, due to all the lines. Also this design does not give a sense of scale and size of the giant peach. Perhaps I should put another image in of James to show size comparison.
